Some women choose to follow men but there are some who choose to follow their dream and Vasudha Sondhi is amongst them who not only chose to chase her dream but also transformed it into a reality. As the Managing Director of Outbound Marketing, she has created a stature for herself in the industry and has been influencing several women to think beyond and follow what they actually dream. As she shares her journey, it not only inspired me but also created an urge within me to push my dream to a logical conclusion. Excerpts.
A role model for some, a visionary for others, Vasudha Sondhi needs no introduction. Her charming and elegant persona assorted with intelligence and courage keep her moving with the same passion and has led her to carve out a distinctive identity. Having done her Hotel Management from Mumbai, she joined Taj Mumbai as a management trainee despite being chosen for ITC Management Training Programme. Shifting from one city to another often tends to be challenging and the same was with her. Delhi was a bit tough for her to adapt to and being placed in Taj Delhi, she mentions about the bureaucratic setup, so the rose tinted glasses of the hospitality industry came off and she chickened out and ran off to her parents overseas. For a year, she sat back contemplating her next move, her mother whom she considers to be a real-life fighter inspired her to not give up. She returned to Delhi, took up a job at Hyatt as a Sales Executive where her consistent journey began. Thangam Philip, her principal in college, doyen of hospitality industry who has opened many hotel management institutes against all odds and inspite of being bedridden for almost two years, inspired her. Hyatt was a turning point of her career; the culture at Hyatt was to take work seriously but not take oneself seriously. At Hyatt, she learnt a lot, they believe in ‘train the trainer’ process and so she took up the programme for her department and did that at various levels. She was a Sales Executive in the Banquet Sales and from there she rose to become the Banquet Manager.
