Booking a holiday? Then ensure the sun shines for the entire trip and head for the top two sunniest cities in Europe. According to a league table of Southern European cities from www.currentresults.com, Valletta, the capital of Malta, outshines all others when it comes to hours of sunshine.
Valletta basks in 2,957 hours of sun on average each year; over eight hours a day. It outshines the next sunniest city, Portugal’s capital city of Lisbon, by 158 hours.
Second-placed Lisbon boasts 2799 hours of sun on average. These rankings are ahead of Athens (2,771 hours), Madrid (2,769 hours) and Monaco (2,724 hours) in the league table of Southern Europe’s top six sunniest cities.
Corinthia Hotels has stunning five-star properties in the top sunshine destinations of Malta and Lisbon and take advantage of the year-round climate.
At Corinthia St George’s Bay, sun-drenched facilities include a five-pool complex, private beach, spa, water sports centre including a PADI diving school and plenty of al fresco dining at no less than ten restaurants.
Corinthia Palace Hotel, located in San Anton in the centre of the island, has a more leisurely take on its sunny location, as an oasis of calm. It offers many places to unwind, such as tranquil gardens, indoor and outdoor pool, and al fresco dining options such as The Summer Kitchen, Orange Grove brasserie for afternoon tea and light snacks, and the Caprice Lounge.
In Lisbon, the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon overlooks the 18th-century Aqueduct and the beautiful Monsanto Natural Park. The Terrace Lounge is perfect for al fresco dining and chilling out while an indoor pool is an integral part of the extensive, award-winning Spa and Wellness Club. The spa was awarded Portugal’s Best Luxury Urban Escape Spa, and also Best Hotel Spa at the World Luxury Spa Awards.
Both locations have sub-tropical climates which take the chill off the autumn and winter months too. Lisbon’s mild winters offer up to six hours of sunshine each day while autumn temperatures hover at a very respectable 65 degrees in Malta.
