The company will have 3 properties in Buenos Aires and another in Iguazú
Meliá Hotels International continues to grow, expanding its international presence and increasing its offer in Argentina. The hotel company announces the addition of two properties to its portfolio, the Almarena Puerto Retiro and the Almarena Madero Urbano, which will both open on 1 November under the Affiliated by Meliá brand. These hotels result from a new collaboration agreement with the Almarena Group, paving the way for Meliá to expand further in the country.
These two Affiliated by Meliá brand properties are located in the modern neighbourhoods of Puerto Madero and Retiro in Buenos Aires, famous for their avant-garde architectural development. Once an industrial port, the area now boasts elegant residential areas, restaurants, trendy shops along its docks, and a lively atmosphere. It’s an ideal base for tourists wishing to discover one of Latin America’s most vibrant cities.
Almarena Puerto Retiro, Affiliated by Meliá is located in the Puerto Retiro District, with open views of the port and the La Plata River. The property, a true urban oasis, opened in 2023, offering 73 fully equipped apartments with extraordinary views and a complete spa and wellness space. It boasts an outdoor pool, Pilates room, spa circuit with saunas, heated pool and treatment rooms. It also offers different spaces for business meetings, conferences and social events, including a versatile multifunctional room, meeting rooms and an auditorium.
Almarena Madero Urbano, Affiliated by Meliá, is surrounded by Puerto Madero’s tourist hotspots. It has 78 relaxed and modern apartments with integrated kitchens. It also features a large swimming pool, two jacuzzis, saunas, and a large fully equipped gym, as well as two spacious meeting rooms and a small auditorium.
Meliá already has two iconic hotels in the country: Gran Meliá Iguazú (voted Best Hotel in Argentina in 2023 by the World Travel Awards), opposite the Iguazú Falls, and Meliá Recoleta Plaza, a boutique hotel in the La Recoleta neighbourhood of Buenos Aires.
With the recent partnership with the Almarena Group, which manages the two properties that will soon join its portfolio, Meliá wishes to promote further expansion in Argentina, especially in the premium and luxury segment. To do this, a new expansion plan has been established, focusing on destinations such as Bariloche, Calafate, Ushuaia, Mendoza and Salta.
For Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, “this partnership represents a significant step towards consolidating our presence in the Argentine market while showing how local groups and partners trust us to improve their distribution capacity and benefit from our recognised brands, leadership and loyalty programme, among other valuable resources.”
Almarena is an ever-growing Argentine company, now in its 10th year of operation. It has been consolidating itself since 2014 as one of the leading emerging players on a national scale in the hospitality, gastronomy and real estate development industries. It was founded with Almarena Apart and Hotel Boutique, a beach resort on the Costa del Este, on the Argentine coast. Further accommodation options opened later in Buenos Aires, covering the needs of international travellers.
For Juan Ignacio Politi, President of Almarena, “we are proud to be part of the Meliá family and this is a true milestone for the company. We trust that by working together, we will continue to grow in Argentina, offering an excellent service and creating new opportunities for the tourism sector.”
